The multi-partisan charge of the Virginia chapter of the National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC-VA) is to endorse women who run for office in Virginia, and who meet our mission’s criteria. NWPC-VA is dedicated to eradicating bias, both explicit and implicit, in all its forms. Furthermore, NWPC-VA is dedicated to ensuring reproductive freedom.
The mission of the NWPC-VA is to increase women's participation in the political process and to increase the number of women in elected and appointed positions in the Commonwealth of Virginia. NWPC-VA supports candidates who will work for the repeal of discriminatory laws, especially laws that discriminate on the basis of gender. NWPC-VA supports candidates who will work to enact legislation that advances the principles of human equality and that addresses the needs of women, especially legislation that provides increased access to childcare, paid family leave, and other dependent care programs.
To provide support for women candidates in Virginia, NWPC-VA has formed an Endorsements Committee to make recommendations to the Board, and that committee has created a candidate questionnaire. It asks for your candid responses and background information so that we can better understand your positions on key issues. In addition to an endorsement, NWPC-VA may include volunteer support (collecting signatures, acting as host for events, phone banks, canvasses, lit drops, writing postcards), and/or publicity (on social media and news marketing). The Committee reserves the right to evaluate not only the candidate, but also the totality of circumstances related to the campaign, including opposition, and likelihood of success.
